Some firefighters have been attacked in the Felele area of Lokoja, Kogi State.

The attack occurred on Thursday along Felele Road when the firefighters were responding to a burning car at Al-Salam filling station, opposite Kogi State Polytechnic.

The state command had received an emergency call, but a mob armed with dangerous weapons attacked the fire truck as it approached the scene.

The FFS spokesperson, Ugo Huan, disclosed in a statement on Friday that some firefighters were injured, adding that it was the second time firefighters were attacked while responding to an emergency in the state.

Huan stated that the injured men were taken to a hospital, adding that a part of the truck was destroyed.

She also said the incident had been reported to the police for investigation while some suspects had been arrested.

The statement added, “The Chief Security Officer of the Kogi State Government House has also been informed. The Controller General, Dr Liman Ibrahim, says the attack on firefighters and fire trucks by hoodlums is unacceptable and those responsible will definitely not go unpunished.

“Dr. Liman, who has vowed that those behind this dastardly act will surely be punished, reiterates that it is a criminal offence for anyone to attack firefighters or fire trucks for whatsoever reasons.”

The statement also quoted the CG as saying that his directive of blacklisting any community hostile to firefighters stands as any state government that could not protect FFS firefighters and equipment would no longer enjoy the services of firefighters.

The CG also called on the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to address the problem.
