UNICAL VC lauds Law students for wining laurels at national competitions and announces 50% fees discount for winners

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has commended students of the Law Faculty of the institution for emerging victorious and winning awards in national competitions.

Obi gave the commendation in Calabar when the Law students visited her to present the awards to her and share the experiences of their academic exploits at national competitions.
The students were led on the visit by Ms. Elizabeth Idiku, President of Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), University of Calabar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students emerged victorious in the just concluded “Battle of the Wigs Competition” held in Portharcourt.

The students also participated in the “All Nigeria Universities National Advocacy Championship” in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and “Mock Competition” in Ile-Ife respectively.
Obi told the students that their exploits have brought joy, pride and national recognition to the university, adding that the students who participated were “outstanding”.
While describing the students as worthy Ambassadors of the institution, she charged them to remain focused and dedicated to their studies.

“As an institution, we are proud of the feat you have achieved. From these little beginnings, you will accomplish great things.
“I urge you to always stand out in whatever you do; don’t get lost in the crowd, be exceptional. I am not surprised by this feat because I trust the quality of students we have.
“You went out, saw and conquered. The name you are building for yourselves today will speak better things for you tomorrow,” she said.
The VC, who was filled with joy following the academic exploits of the students, pronounced a 50 percent discount on their school fees.
She pronounced the 50 percent school fees discount for Mr Asanam George-Obong and William’s Emmanuel-Boniface.

George-Obong emerged Best Advocate in the South-South region in the “Battle of the Wigs Competition held in Portharcourt and also, Best Advocate, Moot Rounds of All Nigeria Universities National Advocacy Championships in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

While Emmanuel-Boniface emerged Best Advocate for the Winning Rounds of the Mock Competition in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Earlier, the President of LAWSAN, Idiku, told the VC that her emergence as the first female VC of the institution inspired her to contest for the Faculty President.
“We are here today to present our academic exploit to you as a mother and as the VC of the institution. Since your emergence, you have recorded giant strides in promoting academic excellence and research.

“I was elected as a female president of the faculty shortly after your emergence because I saw your emergence as a strong motivation to me as a woman,” she said.
She solicited the support of the VC in the forthcoming competition which would be hosted by the University’s Faculty of Law in 2022 tagged “Prof. Obi Advocacy Championship Competition”.
In their separate responses, the students who thanked the VC for slashing their school fees described her magnanimity as a show of encouragement and promotion of academic excellence.
